Description:

Promotes and nurtures the education of students by working collaboratively with parents and fellow educators in planning and tailoring courses of study in visual arts; using relevant data in monitoring, assisting with, and correcting, academic efforts; and providing a safe environment conducive to learning.

Duties:

  • Within the Core Knowledge sequence, plan and implement instruction to ensure that all students meet and exceed the State Visual Arts Standards in the three broad strands of the Create, Relate, and Evaluate.
  • Emphasis shall be on experiencing visual art within cultural context of the arts as well as on the traditional emphasis of creating visual products.
  • Provide a variety of learning experiences so that students demonstrate skills and concepts learned through displays, portfolios, and a variety of communication mediums, including electronic media presentations.
  • Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom, managing, when appropriate, multiple instructional activities simultaneously.
  • Coordinate visual arts instruction with other teachers of the school. Communicate regularly and assist classroom teachers with integrating visual arts into the instructional program.
  • Review periodically the art curriculum for the school and recommend modifications when appropriate so that the curriculum serves as a framework for planning sequential instruction to address Arizona Visual Art Standards and Core Knowledge sequence within the cultural and developmental needs of the students.
  • Plan and supervise three quarterly community celebrations along with the music and physical education teachers. Provide and supervise other opportunities for students to demonstrate individually and in groups the skills and talents developed in the art program, bringing pride of accomplishment to students and to the school. These opportunities may occasionally be outside of the normal work day for teachers, including evenings and weekends.
  • Provide instruction in the proper use of artistic materials and equipment, ensuring safe use.
  • Prepare orders for art supplies and equipment within the approved budget, following established purchasing procedures.
  • Maintain an inventory and store in an approved fashion of all art supplies.
  • Provide and effectively organize a variety of materials, equipment, media, and community resources to support the instructional program, using school approved procedures.
  • Maintain in safe working condition all art equipment.
  • Recommend budget needs to the Principal or designated supervisor.
  • Serve as a role model for students by cultivating personal artistic talents and creating artistic work.
  • Serve as mentor to students demonstrating behavioral and/or academic difficulties.
  • Organize and supervise approved field trips to enhance classroom learning.
  • Organize and supervise community Visual Arts events with the Paideia Family Center.
  • Maintains order in the classroom by adhering to The Paideia Academy school-wide and classroom discipline guidelines; consults with other professionals where there appears to be evidence of learning disabilities, drug, or alcohol abuse, problems of social adjustment, or child abuse.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy educational environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Intercepts deterioration in achievement by counseling students with academic difficulties; drawing on the school Response to Intervention (RTI) resources for additional academic assistance.
  • Keeps parents informed by maintaining records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation; reporting on all elements of student development at parent-teacher conferences, both regularly scheduled and as-needed.
  • Provide student support services by monitoring halls, study periods, and lunchroom; sponsoring student organizations or activities.
  • Updates job knowledge by attending faculty meetings; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances school's reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Requirements:

Skills/Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in subject area; Certification/SEI Endorsement; Current Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Excellent experience in teaching and working with diverse students in the field of Visual Arts unless entering teaching from an alternative certification program

  • Experience teaching struggling students of diversity
  • Working knowledge of Arizona state standards – Visual Arts
