Position Summary

The Health Educator plays a key role in supporting the health and well-being of adolescents in a school-based setting. Working closely with a clinical team, this role provides one-on-one and group education to young people on topics like healthy relationships, decision-making, pregnancy prevention, and sexual health.

In addition to counseling, the Health Educator leads interactive workshops in classrooms and after-school programs, helping students build the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices. This person also partners with school communities—engaging students, families, and staff—to increase awareness of available health services and encourage participation in programs. This is a hands-on, relationship-driven role that blends education, outreach, and care coordination. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development, comfortable having open and supportive conversations, and excited to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people.

Essential Duties

  • Build trusted relationships with youth by providing one-on-one and group health education on topics such as healthy decision-making, sexual health, and overall well-being.
  • Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate workshops in classrooms, after-school programs, and community settings for students and families.
  • Partner with school staff and the clinical team to ensure students receive coordinated, high-quality care and support.
  • Conduct outreach and lead enrollment efforts by connecting with students and families at school events and within the broader school community.
  • Support students in accessing reproductive and family planning services, including education, referrals, and follow-up care.
  • Track and document services, outcomes, and participation to support program goals and continuous improvement.
  • Help implement evidence-based health education programs and adapt content to meet the needs of diverse youth populations.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor peer health educators to amplify student voice and leadership.
  • Stay current on best practices through ongoing training and apply learnings to strengthen programming.
  • Uphold confidentiality and privacy standards while creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
  • Provide occasional coverage at other sites or events as needed to support program continuity.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, Health Education, Community Health, or a related field or equivalent hands-on experience (3–4 years) in youth-focused health education.
  • 2+ years of experience facilitating workshops or providing education/counseling to adolescents, particularly in sexual and reproductive health.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Key Competencies

  • Comfort discussing sensitive topics (e.g., sexual health, relationships, HIV/STI prevention) in a clear, supportive, and non-judgmental way to build trust and create safe, supportive spaces for youth to openly share and engage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect authentically with diverse youth and families.
  • Experience working in school-based, community-based, or youth development settings and facilitating engaging, age-appropriate workshops and discussions for diverse groups of young people and families.
  • Comfort collaborating with school staff, clinicians, and community partners to support student well-being.
  • Ability to adapt communication style and approach based on the needs, backgrounds, and experiences of different audiences.
  • Demonstrated cultural humility and respect when working with diverse communities.
  • Ability to take initiative in outreach efforts and actively engage students and families in programs and services.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including managing multiple responsibilities, maintaining accurate documentation, and tracking outcomes.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Willingness to seek feedback, participate in training, and continuously improve programming and approach.
  • Ability to remain flexible and step in to support team and program needs as they arise.
